Keep an eye on the Ilisu project

Ich halte es für wichtig an dieser Stelle als Bauingenieur Stellung zu diesem stark umstrittenen Staudammprojekt zu nehmen. Mein Standpunkt ist klar: so nicht! Das hat nun auch das BMZ verstanden und gab im Oktober den offiziellen Austieg Deutschlands aus diesem Bauvorhaben bekannt. Ein wichtiges Signal für Menschenrechte und nachhaltige Entwicklungspoltik wurde damit ausgesendet. Wir als Experten sind dazu verpflichtet, uns gegen politische Instrumentalisierung zu wehren und nach heutigen ingenieurtechnischen Standards zu handeln. Diese sind dem Zeitgeist oft voraus und damit richtungsweisend. Es gibt genügend Alternativen.

From the 30th October to 4th November the irrigation show 2008 takes place at Anaheim/California. Look for the events of your interests at the conference schedule.

EXPO Zaragoza 2008

The Expo 2008 in Zaragoza focuses clearly on the medium water and its impact on our civilisation. Ten thematic weeks illuminate the various aspects. From 16.06.-10.09.2008 the water tribune pavilion host the event.

Tidal Meandering Channel

This animation of a controlled laboratory experiment shows the morphological evolution of an tidal meandering chanel during 8000 tidal cycles. After these 8000 cycles the bed turns to a quasi equilibrium status. Note that in the left part (near the inlet) the scour-deposition formation is strictly inverse and not in phase with meander curvature. Read more in the pdf.
